Providing patient-centered surgical care in the older adult by:

  • Individualizing and enhancing risk communication between patients and their care providers
  • Fostering patient-centered surgical decision-making so that patients can achieve their goals before and after surgery

Pioneering care improvement in older surgical patients by:

  • Identifying and refining best practices in geriatric surgery through outcomes assessment, comparative effectiveness analyses, and interventional trials
  • Discover barriers to delivery of optimal care and improve implementation of interdisciplinary patient-centered surgical care for older adults 

Providing training in geriatric surgery principles and practices by creating educational programs to train future care providers by:

  • Innovating new models of interdisciplinary care training where trainees across disciplines learn side by side to care for older surgical patients
